I am passionate about music, and hope that my students will develop a passion for it as well. I believe in setting short term and long term goals, and developing a plan to attain both. I teach all my students multiple styles, because it is important for trumpet players to know how to play every style. I am quick to acknowledge when a student has gotten better. Positive feedback is very important in keeping students motivated. Read More

For beginner students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has advanced to where I can see that they have a good grasp of the fundamentals of the instrument, that is typically when I begin to introduce solo repertoire and supplement with my own material. For adult beginners, I typically will try and use the Essential Elements book to start with but not for very long. Read More

I strive to have a positive and friendly relationship with students. Respect of eachother is also important. I teach each student uniquely and do not stick to a "cookie cutter" approach. I also try to explain playing processes and ideas clearly to ensure comprehension. I often use analogies, comparisons, and visuals to make teaching concepts more clear. Read More

In all classes it is essential to establish a technique routine that let students grown up quickly in musical performance. Scales, arpeggios, articulations, intensities, and specific elements to each one instrument have to be part of daily routine. It is important too to maintain motivation and inspiration through interesting musical pieces to the learner and that represents challenges to go step by step. In French Horn classes (my main speciality, beginners to advance level) beginners can start with methods as First Steps for Horn (Brown), Rubank elementary, The French Horn Step by Step (Macri), Maxime Alphonse, Kopprash, Kling. I have performed in music ensembles since childhood. As an elementary school student I performed in regionally recognized handbell, soprano recorder, and choir ensembles and I am a strong advocate of these types of ensembles at the elementary level. As a middle and high school student I participated in jazz, concert, symphonic, and marching band. While attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia I participated in Orchestra (trumpet), Glee Club, and Jazz Band (piano) and have extensive experience performing in symphonic and concert ensembles ensembles. I always tailor to the needs of each and every individual student. Every student learns in a different way and I try to capitalize on that what I feel like is best for the student while working with them. Regardless of the age level of the student, I always start on the mouthpiece. I am a strong believer that the mouthpiece is the instrument and the trumpet is an amplifier of what a student does on the mouthpiece. Read More
