Also gave lessons in a local Music store which was quite rewarding as well. At times, I would play some duets with the students which gave them a feeling of accomplishment and joy for their instrument. Focusing on setting up a firm embouchure and obtaining a clear buzz on the mouthpiece sets up students for success! Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. My approach is repertoire-based, meaning that we learn technique through the demands of particular pieces; I also teach strength-training exercises to help students develop their fullest potential on trumpet. Deriving inspiration from both classical and jazz methods, I also believe in exploring the physical capabilities and limitations of the instrument so that the player can develop a personal relationship to it.
