As I mentioned in the "about me" section, I served as principal horn with Държавна опера Стара Загора (the Bulgarian State Opera in Stara Zagora) from late 2017 to the very end of 2019, right before the pandemic hit. For beginning students and children, I typically start with the basic essential fundamentals of playing the trumpet. Once the student has progressed, I will introduce more appropriate material to advance the student with. For adults and more experienced students I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and especially fun, no matter their ability level. I use a lot of play along material and I show and play for the student a lot of playing techniques and riffs for examples and what is possible and how to progress. Read More

I always vary my teaching methods to accomodate each of my student's needs.  However, my lesson format stays fundamentally the same.  I always begin with some mouthpiece buzzing, which incorporates ear-training, then move to rhythm exercises, scales and technical studies, method book, and any other music the student is working on at the time. For the younger beginning students, I usually start with Alfred's Beginning Piano Series. Once the student has a grasp of the fundementals, I will begin introducing major and minor scales as well as solo repertoire. For my adult students I will see their level of ability and musical interests, find appropriate material based on their taste and formulate the lesson to include fun stuff as well as build proper mechanics.  For my horn lessons depending on the skill level I being with Essential Elements or the Arban book and build from there incorporating solos of the greats, and songs that they want to learn to play. It is important is to teach and reinforce the fundamentals of trumpet playing so that music making can be a natural process. This style of teaching is applicable at all levels.
