Growing up in the bustling suburbs of New York City, trumpeter Jon L was introduced to music at a very young age. Originally a classical player Jon began his studies in Nashville, TN where he attended Vanderbilt University. While there Jon found his voice in jazz under the tutelage and support of studio musician and composer Billy Adair. Jon then became a stalwart in the Blair Big Band as well as a huge proponent of the jazz program at the Blair School of Music. In 2008 Jon moved back to New York to attend New York University and to study full time with master pianist Mike Longo. Since returning to New York Jon has had the opportunity to play at many of New York’s finest venues, such as The Blue Note Jazz Club, The Rockefeller Center Gardens, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, The Nokia Theater and BB Kings Blues Club.
Justin has been teaching for the past decade in a variety of settings including private one on one lessons, elementary, high school, and college classes. Justin has studied with world renowned musicians such as Vincent Penzarella from the New York Philharmonic, NYC jazz trumpeter Joe Magnarelli and Broadway musician Bud Burridge. Justin has had the privelage to share the stage with some of music's most talented invidividuals, including Saturday Night Live's trumpeter Earl Gardner, Randy Brecker, Maria Schneider, John Pattitucci, Eddie Palmieri, Brian Lynch, James Moody and Jimmy Heath.
I've been teaching various instruments privately for about eight years. In my current teaching position at the elementary level, I teach classroom music incorporating choral literature, performing on the Handbells, Song Flute and Soprano Recorder. At the middle school level, I instruct small group lessons and conduct band. The student population is very diverse from general education students to ones that are on the Autism Spectrum. In past positions, I have taught other areas of music such as strings and piano.
I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated.
The methods that I would typically use are the Arbans complete Conservatory method for trumpet and Cornet. Schlossberg´s Daily Drills and Studies, Clarkes method and Caruso. I have been studying these four methods quite some time now and understand not only the instruction on the page but the purpose of the excerise itself. So for each student and level a unique methodology would be put together.

Our recommended starting age for trombone is 8 or 9. The instrument requires a good amount of lung capacity as well as physical strength in the muscles around the mouth and the ability to maneuver the instrument's sliding valve. While a student younger than 8 might be physically able to play the instrument, this is rare.
With Musika, instructors give customized lessons to each student. They work with the students to determine their strengths and weaknesses, and then develop the best lesson plan for their individual success. Lessons will usually incorporate practicing the instrument's fundamentals, learning the proper technique for performing, and music theory to understand the piece, ultimately creating a well-rounded and skilled musician.
Most beginning students start with a straight trombone, which does not have extra tubing included. More advanced students may wish to go with an F-rotor trombone, which adds an extra trigger to make the trombone longer, changing the key. A student may decide to purchase a new trombone, rent an instrument from a local shop, or try to buy a used instrument. If renting or buying used, make sure the instrument is cosmetically sound and largely free of dents, and that the valves and slide all move correctly.
Whether you are an adult starting out, or an advanced player, Musika's network has a trombone teacher for you! Beginner adult students start with us every day to begin working on learning the basics of music theory, technique, and overall musicianship. Our advanced students work to continue their education, and nurture and develop their skills. No matter your level, the teachers in our network work with you to customize your lessons, and assure your progress!
By choosing in-home lessons, you are choosing the most convenient way to add trombone lessons into your schedule! Adults love our in-home lesson option as it allows them to learn their instrument without adding travel time to an already busy schedule. These lessons are also good for children as it allows them to work on their new skill in the comfort of their own home, in familiar surroundings, so they can be totally at ease and able to take in all the skills they learn during the lesson.

I am a beginning guitar player that has now taken five lessons with Jeff. I cannot speak highly enough of Jeff has a guitar teacher! I have learned more in five lessons than the months I spent trying to learn on my own. Jeff has introduced me to music apps that I can use during my practice sessions, followed up our lessons with comments and/or music, is very encouraging - yet holds high standards. During my lessons I feel that Jeff is very observant and tuned in to your positioning when playing - whether it be your wrist, your arm, or your fingers. He always offers recommendations on ways to try to fix something that I might be struggling with. He really pays attention. As an aside, Jeff is a very talented songwriter and musician. Check him out on YouTube. His songs are very beautiful and inspirational. I'm honored to be his student! - Linda

Having taken 6 years of piano lessons myself when I was young, I am very happy with Osmond teaching my daughter. He is very personable and helping her to enjoy piano. My daughter loves the fun songs she gets to play and I really appreciate how he is integrating even in the first month fingering, chords, beats, and hearing the music. She's getting a very well rounded training and she's loving it!

I honestly cannot say enough positive things about Rachel. We met her through CYT where my daughter took theater classes from Rachel and was directed by Rachel in several musicals. Because Rachel was so wonderful to work with and so clearly talented at teaching and directing, several years ago, my daughter started private vocal lesson with her and I have seen my daughter's vocal abilities grow in leaps and bounds. Rachel is an ace at picking music to work on that stretches abilities while at the same time, keeps vocal lessons fun. I highly recommend her as a voice and theater coach.

Unbelievably Awesome. My daughter is a beginner and has some special needs. Justin is more than patient and helpful while being completely thorough and pushing her (in a good way) to try harder. He is encouraging and teaches effectively. I am very pleased. More important, so is my daughter. Thank you Musika! So grateful we found your service and connected with Justin. We highly recommend him.

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

I started my 5 yr old daughter with Karleen this Fall. Karleen has a calm and honest disposition. My daughter adores her and cannot wait for her arrival. I was concerned because my daughter is not so willing to "practice" during the week. Karleen advised me to allow her habits of practicing to evolve naturally as her love and understanding of piano increases. She emphasized how nurturing my daughter's love of music is most important. This was music to my ears :)

“My son has been instructed by Mark for almost four years. Mark is an outstanding teacher. His credentials are by themselves impressive, but his ability to relate his knowledge to kids is even more so. Connor's ability to understand and read music is fantastic. Mark also knows the performance side of playing drums and has encouraged Connor to actually incorporate his knowledge to play alone and in a band. He is patient and encouraging which is what motivates Connor to work and practice. He is a mentor as well as a teacher. He is superior at what he does and we highly recommend him.” Ro J.

My daughter, Valarie is one of the original members of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble under the guidance of Aaron. He patiently worked with Valarie as well as the other five members individually and as a group to produce music that has been shared and enjoyed locally as well as nationally. He has the ability to seek out the strengths of each student while building confidence. Through his teachings, not only had Valarie learned how to produce and enjoy music, but also responsibility and so many life skills for everyday living.

Martina has been a great teacher. Our son is 8 and had taken some piano lessons before starting with Martina. She came right in and got him to improve. She does a great job of giving him just enough of a challenge to make him work and learn but not any pieces that are so overwhelming he can't get them. She has helped him through a lot of early music theory so that he not only can play the piano but understands the music he is reading in all of its complexity.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
