I'm a musician working and living in the Atlanta area. The primary instrument that I studied in university is the trombone and i have a lot of love for the unconventional instrument. I've been able to play in tons of bands in the metro area that you wouldn't normally find a trombone in. I love the challenge of finding out how to fit my sound into a new group or genre. Read More

For beginner students I like to start away from books and notation and work on sound production and call and response. This is a way to get the ear working and to have some fun with potentially the most daunting part of learning an instrument. Once we have mastered that we move to writen notation and try to match what we have been doing without the book. When a student has progressed towards a good understanding of music notation I will encourage solo repertoire and other projects that are of interest of the students based upon a common goal we have set for our time together. I began teaching when I was in high school - working with my fellow trombonists and giving private lessons. This continued through my college years. I have been a middle school and high school band director, led choral groups, and taught guitar, theory, conducting and composition to students of all ages in the USA and overseas. My work overseas has required me to be flexible and adaptable to different styles and types of music. Read More

Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment. I encourage the individual to find what they love about what they're doing to spark growth and personal development. I use real world scenarios and applications for my students to relate and apply their learning through the playing of their instrument. From my pedagogical teachings ive learned that the best approach is a differentiated one. One that is diverse yet unique to the learner and/ or group of learners. I use a linguistic and analytical yet methodological approach to teaching that I find to be VERY Efficient! Read More
