I think it is super important that music be relaxed and fun. Many teachers throughout my life have adopted an approach based around harsh negative reinforcement which I've now had to spend years unlearning in my practice. The biggest thing I hope students walk away from my lessons with is the understanding that music is not the end of the world but rather a fun and relaxing way to spend their time. Read More

I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them. Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment. My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

I teach a complete understanding of the guitar fretboard. I incorporate music theory and an understanding of chord structure in all lessons, and for all instruments that I play and teach. I have played in a wide variety of musical groups from symphony to jazz and rock, so I can direct my teaching toward the styles that you enjoy. Read More

Flexibility and creativity are the keys. Each student is different and learns/progresses in different ways. I believe in encouragement and positive reinforcement. Setting realistic goals while challenging the learner to grow is a delicate balance. Inspiring a love for practice is essential. There really is no magic to learning to play an instrument - you have to work at it - you just want that work to be fun! Read More
