Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
I began playing trumpet at a very young age, and have found it, and music in general, to be the most valuable means of communication available to us. I graduated from University of Maryland School of Music December 2014, and have played in a number of bands (both jazz and classical), taught private lessons, and worked as a festival clinician for local schools. I feel that private lessons provide an environment where both student and teacher may learn from each other, and where that knowledge is imparted in a friendly environment at a pace that is comfortable for both of us. Trombone: Practice, practice, practice! The trombone is an extremely unforgiving instrument and this is why the words practice need to be repeated many times every lesson. The student needs to understand that in order to get any enjoyment out of playing the trombone they need to practice regularly. Once the student has a regular practice schedule, then their sound will improve and they will enjoy playing. There can be almost no progress at all until the student finds regular practice time to work on their trombone exercises. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in college with a few students that went to the school and I fell in love with helping people reach their musical goals. With the 6 years of teaching experience I have realized that the skills you get from learning an instrument are more important than we think, it helps with problem solving and critical thinking. Also critical listening is the biggest skill that you will develop. Read More

Whether beginners, high school students, or adults who keep up their trombone playing, I work with the method books that school students already have and will always augment their books with my own warmup and practice handouts as well as having each student keep a Music Dictation book with them so that I can make special notes and comments for each individual student....because we all have different needs at our various levels of musical growth. I also give my younger students a practice log so they can track how much they practice. I like to treat it like a game. That way they look forward to practicing and can gain an appreciation for the trumpet. I also want the student to look forward to lessons with me. Not for my own personal sake, but I want the student to enjoy taking lessons. If they don’t enjoy lessons, they aren’t going to want to play. Read More
