I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week. You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. Read More

From a very young age, I desired to explore the world by doing something meaningful and purposeful with my life. In elementary school, my sister played the baritone saxophone, followed by the french horn. This inspired me to also play an instrument in school. The school's music teacher provided me with a trombone. Since then, the instrument, music-making, and art, became an essential part of my being. In High School, my band director introduced me to great works of classical music by great composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and many others. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements; as well as other, more auditory practices that do not require a book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other solo repertoire pieces that I feel the student is ready for, and assist in musical execution for future recitals. For adults, I try to first find out what the student is interested in, and then guide my lessons in such a way that would be beneficial for their goal, as well as their musicianship. Read More

Funnily enough, my first private lesson student was actually a peer while I was in high school who wanted some tips and tricks. I also maintained a small lesson studio consisting throughout my time at the University of Iowa. Those lessons were driven heavily by the interests of my students. I had one student trying to prepare for a collegiate music major audition, I had one with interest in becoming a composer, and a more casual student whose ultimate goal was to gain enough skills to lead music in church worship services. I have been playing trombone since fifth grade, nearly 20 years of experience. I have about 15 years of experience playing the piano and I have learned the other brass instruments out of necessity for my music degree. I can teach trombone and piano at all levels and can teach trumpet, horn, and euphonium to the intermediate level. I always encourage regular practice. It is the only way one can gain experience and grow as a musician. Read More

In the summer of 2022, he served as an artist fellow in the Atlantic Music Festival, giving varied performances in orchestral, chamber and solo settings. To fuse his dedication to performance with his interest in academic research, Tommy also presented a full lecture recital in the recent conference on cultural assimilation in music hosted by the University of Calgary. Furthermore, an equally devoted performer on the euphonium, he has been invited to play with the New England Brass Band and has been performing with the Boston University Wind Ensemble on an assistantship since 2021.
