My typical process for working with a new student is to begin with the end in mind. According to the particular needs and expectations of the student, we discuss attainable and measurable goals for a given period of time. With that in mind, I devise tailor-made lesson plans that may include materials from esteemed method books (Arban, Bordogni, Cimera, Edwards, Mantia, Marstellar, Schlossberg, etc.) and exercises of my own design. For children my teaching style is very reward based, I love stickers so always give them one once they've mastered their song for the week and such. Lots of encouragement and positive feedback and working through the difficult things in a positive manner. For adults I will teach based on you! If you are really looking for a fun hobby with the music we will be more laid back and relaxed with it and can bounce around and learn all sorts of different things! Read More

I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109! I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups.    I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

I do tend to assign, as mentioned elsewhere, listening homework. I do this because I've seen it help students learn what they want to and need to learn faster as well as help students learn to like, love, or at least appreciate new things. The main point here is that every student is complex, difficult, and hard insomuch as teaching method required, but my passion is so great that I don't see issues or problems but rather new opportunities to get students excited about learning and demonstrating what they've learned. I feel that it is best not to use the cookie cutter approach to teaching music. Each student is unique in their own way and is able to learn and apply musical concepts differently; therefore I take a careful and studious approach to make sure that my students have the best advantage by creating a custom lesson plan specific to their learning pace. I do my best to make it fun and engaging while increasing their ability and knowledge of music as it applies to their instrument. Read More

Therefore, students can later decide whether or not they wish to pursue the certification to teach in k-12 public schools. I myself enjoyed teaching both in schools and camps. However, besides teaching, I was still not sure if there was another way that I wanted to affect positive change in education and society. Fortunately, I had a life-changing opportunity during my time at Montclair State University. I resided as president of Musicians for Diversity and Culture (M.D.C.)- an organization dedicated to using a multicultural approach in order to advance music, education, and society. Read More
