Overview:
I am a passionate musician. I graduated from the University of West Georgia in 2014 with a percussion performance degree. I have performed with many different groups playing styles such as reggae, rock, punk, jazz, and latin. I have performed for church services, weddings, and operas. Music has been a driving force in my life and I look forward to a long musical life.
EXPERIENCE
I am a humble musician who works hard and has a love to spread the joy of music to others. I studied music at the University of West Georgia and graduated in 2014. I have performance experience having played with many different groups. In teaching I like to focus directly on what the student wants to acheive. There are many ways to get to the same place and I want to make sure every one of my students follows a path that fits their style of learning. In my lessons the students are encouraged to have fun but also work hard. If the student is not having fun they are missing the whole point of playing music, on the other hand if they aren't working and improving they are missing the whole point of taking lessons. It is critical to find a balance between the two to be a sucessful and happy musician.
METHODS USED
Each lesson is tailored to help the student meet their individual goal, and if the student does not know what their goals are I will help them set some. It is a good idea to set short term goals that can be acheived in the time of a week and long term goals so after a month or two the student can see how the short term goals add up to long term success. I emphasize playing with a metronome, learning to read music, and playing different style, especially ones you are less comfortable with. This being said every lesson will have similar aspects; reading, rudiments, grooves, and a section set aside so the student can use what they have learned in an open relaxed setting that lets the students creativity drive what happens. At the end of the day each student should leave having put in good work and enjoyed applying what we learned.
LESSON STYLE
When it comes to teaching it is important to connect with the student. This allows the student and myself to get the most out each lesson. I always end up learning from my students and as I help them grow they help me to learn and progress as a musician also. I put emphasis on practice but I also encourage the student to take a step back from the book and the metronome and enjoy what they are doing because at the end of the day music is what you make it, and if you enjoy making music the audience can hear that and any performance you give will have another dimension of enjoyment for the audience.
