Practice makes perfect. I ask students to practice as often as possible, no matter the skill level. I prefer students to start practice with scales and warm-up drills, then move on to composed pieces. Along with practice, I hope that students will not only play, but listen to their music, such as the Suzuki method. I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More

I try to have a very positive approach to teaching. I believe that if a student is told what they are doing wrong constantly, they will feel like they aren't good enough for the instrument, or they will lose interest. I instead focus on telling them what they are doing right, and offer suggestions on what they need to improve on. Read More

My methods fall into 4 categories: 1) Essential Technique- Students will learn the basics from the Essential Elements books, Etude books such as Wolfahrt and Dont, and customized materials 2) Music Theory and History- Students will learn note reading, key signatures, scales and arpeggios, intervals, rhythm and music history through customized materials and games 3) Solo- Students will choose solos from the Suzuki violin/viola series, or another skill-appropriate solo 4) Ensemble- Once the student has basic familiarity with his or her instrument, I will find them an appropriate ensemble opportunity such as youth orchestra, All-County/All-State Orchestra, adult community orchestra or chamber music Read More
