Reading music and trying to hold the instrument correctly, having bow control, and paying attention to tone can be overwhelming. The first few lessons will be book free. first i ask what the student desires to learn . what type of music etc. once i have taught a few songs i ask the student to write a list of songs that they would like to learn. i teach how to find the key that the student sings in and how to transpose the song into that key. if the student does not wish to sing i teach them how the instrument of their choice works . again regardless of the instrument i usually am able to teach a student two songs in an hour lesson . one in four four timing and one in three four timing . there is nothing better than to see the light come on in a students face and see the confidence of ' i can do this ! My emphasis is on performance and motivating the student. I set goals for performance at the early stages of study whether it's for family and friends or at an open mic or in church. Without performance as a goal it's hard to motivate the student to practice. I analyze each student's individual learning style whether it's visual or auditory and find ways to help them learn faster and securely. For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. Suzuki is also for beginners but it has a little more complex exercises which is why I wait to introduce Suzuki to them. Read More
