Overview:
I am a lifelong educator of music and learning, in general. I think that music is taught best in a well-rounded curriculum that offers students experience in learning technique and solos. I encourage listening to various styles of music and a variety of artists. I am motivated to provide my students with the best experience geared to their level that will allow them to progress and learn while enjoying the process. I received numerous scholarships in college, and sat first chair in ensemble playing as well as many solo performances. I studied at the International Music Camp on the border between Canada and the US and Julliard Summer Music School in Upstate New York.
EXPERIENCE
My musician experiences began early on the piano, then the violin and flute were added shortly after that. I began teaching/coaching in high school, and continued on teaching privately while majoring in music in college. I received numerous scholarships for my playing. My students continue to play today. I am always thoughtful and positive about my teacher to student comments, giving encouragement as much as possible. I am a lifelong learner, and music is an excellent way to promote this interest.
METHODS USED
I have experience with repertoire for all of the instruments that I teach at the levels that are appropriate for the students. I keep in mind the standard curriculum for solo work, but I am also flexible in choices. I like to learn about the student and what kinds of music that they are interested in learning. This allows for the addition of different genres of music according to the student's interest and motivation. I like to include music theory in my teaching as well as some music history. I often will encourage players who are learning an instrument to consider taking up the piano as well, as I feel that this offers players a good foundation for understanding music theory functions. I follow the suggested repertoire for the American String Teachers' Association and the National Flute Association.
LESSON STYLE
I like to provide super positive encouragement for students. I set realistic goals for students and make learning fun at the same time. That way students are motivated to practice and progress at a rate that is comfortable, and that provides the optimum learning experience. I often will encourage parent participation with younger students' lessons, and I like to spend time conferencing with the parents or even have them sit in on lessons if they have the time. This way, they know what their young student is to be working on for the lessons. My online teaching includes student and teacher utilizing "Zoom" software for audio/video and students must have the same materials for the lesson as the teacher so that the instruction can be productive and positive.

We're very grateful to have found such an excellent violin teacher as Natalie for our 9 year old daughter. She's patient and in a short time has gotten our daughter learning proper technique, flying through the basics, and engaged to continue learning. Natalie is very easy to schedule with and has great suggestions and tips/tricks. We strongly recommend her as your future music teacher!

Natalie is teaching piano and violin to my 13 year old daughter. Her teaching style and overall demeanor immediately puts all of us at ease. She is flexible with her scheduling and extremely patient and responsive to the child's needs and interests. She goes out of the way to ensure that the student is setup to learn according to their ability and inclination. She is very warm and friendly - and we are lucky to have found her.

Natalie has given my daughter many tips and tricks to continue to learn and excel with her flute playing. Natalie does wonderful job demonstrating how to play, listening to my daughter play, and then giving my daughter simple tips and ideas on how my daughter can work to learn new pieces of music. Flute lessons with Natalie have been well worth it, as the individualized lessons have allowed my daughter to expand her abilities very quickly.

Our violin teacher is the best! This is the second violin teacher we've had through Musika. My granddaughter loves her violin lessons with her. Much better than our first teacher. She has taught her so much more than the school ever could in this short amount of time she's been with her! I would definitely highly recommend her to other parents!

Ms. Natalie J. taught my daughter violin lessons for 2 years. She is very knowledgeable and talented. She really imparted a lot of classical music learning to my student, who is in high school orchestra. This helped her with performance and playing in general.
