I am a passionate and motivated musician who loves to share music with others. I graduated from UMass Amherst with a Viola Performance degree and am currently completing coursework to earn my Music Education degree and official public school teacher certification. I have been playing violin and viola since I was 5 years old and have been enriched by music throughout my life. I have attended festivals in Colorado and Vermont and have had very varied musical experiences ranging from performing with high level orchestras, singing in folk music choirs, or playing in a west African drumming ensemble.
I have been teaching private lessons since I was in high school to students of all ages and abilities. My life has been full and rich because of my musical experiences, which is something that I am determined to pass on to students. I have always been invovled with many types of musical ensembles including choirs, bands, orchestras, a cappella groups, and marching band. My ecclectic experience allows me to offer students a different take on music making because I draw on all of my background when I teach. I believe music should be fun, first and foremost, and I always make sure that that is the driving force behind lessons.
For beginning students, I focus first on tone. I believe that without a good solid tone, it is hard to continue on to higher level musical concepts and could also frustrate the student. I will get your student to sound good as quickly as possible. Then, I focus on rhythm, musicality, and theory. For more intermediate and advanced students, I will asses their level and then build on their already existence skills, filling in any holes in their understanding of theory as we go along. I use a combination of methods in my lessons as to give the students as well rounded of an experience as possible.
I always mold my lessons individually to the student. I believe music should be fun and rewarding, and that is always something that I reflect in my energy and playing during lessons. I will set small, realistic practicing goals for each student and be sure that there is always a chance for them to feel successful on whatever level they are currently at. I will continue to demonstrate and show examples of great musicians to inspire the students to strive for greatness. I believe that my passion for music will come across to your student and they will soon be infected with the spirit!
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
