Monterey Jazz Festival - 2007 Bern Jazz Festival - 2009 House Drummer at The Brooklyn Outboard - 2010

Overview:
I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my experience. In 2010, I graduated from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary music in New York city with a bachelors in music performance/production. Performing and producing music all around the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician. I have performed at the Bern jazz festival in Switzerland, at the Bitter End (and many other clubs) in New York, and the Monterey jazz festival.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to the beginning of college (2006). As I began to teach more and more I found the transfer of knowledge incredibly inspiring. Regular practice on a consistent schedule is part of any instrument, but I have found that it cannot be achieved without interest or motivation. My goal is to keep lessons fun and productive, but most importantly geared specifically for each student. When I was younger I found that a lot of my lessons didn't relate to my self expression, which slowed the learning process. My students are encouraged to get out there and play, compete and compose original material. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
Constructing good habits is key. So very much of every instrument is muscle memory, which means developing good habits or weeding out bad ones is extremely important. I customize my lesson plan for each student in order to maximize the learning curve and to keep things interesting. If the student is a beginner, I make sure to show them a (not the) correct way to approach a goal and keep focus. If the student is further along, I evaluate and monitor their progress to ensure proficiency. Most importantly, I make sure they are having FUN!
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. While acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, I have found that mystery can also be a great motivator. There are plenty of rudimentary exercises designed to increase proficiency, but breaking music down to a language is the most important. These rudiments can take the magic out of the art and reduce desire, which is why I always leave room for self-education (unless the student requests otherwise). I have found that my favorite and most effective instructors lead me instead of simply handing out information. By finding out what inspires each student, I can tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
