ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

B.A. Applied Arts and Sciences University of North Texas 2006 M.A. Classical Guitar Pedagogy Texas Woman's University 2012

Awards:

Played with the L5 Guitar ensemble at UNT, as well as, several solo, duet and ensemble classical performances

Overview:
I am a very enthusiastic and passionate guitar teacher who enjoys the art of teaching, performing, and practicing. Music has been an inspiration from an early age for me and I have been influenced by many styles throughout my life. Pursuing a Bachelor's at UNT pointed me in the direction of Jazz (I have studied with Fred Hamilton, Joe Lee, and Clint Strong). I still love transcribing horn lines and studying jazz repertoire. After my Bachelor's (and playing in several local bands and groups), I decided to give Classical guitar its due attention (studying for my Master's with Carlo Pezzimenti-TWU Denton, TX) . I can play both Classical and Electric guitar. I love playing and teaching all kinds of music from Segovia to Sonny Rollins, from Meshuggah and Tool to The Police or Tori Amos. I have a strong Classical background of listening, however, I love my rock, metal, and pop music .
EXPERIENCE
I have played guitar for 25 years. I began playing in blues bars and rock groups from 1998-2009. I have over 13 years of guitar teaching experience in DFW area. I began teaching part time 13 years ago and then eventually started teaching at various music schools on a full time basis. I have taught at private music schools, retail store teaching, and as an adjunct professor at community college. I have taught group guitar classes of 20-30 people at times. I have participated in many local classical guitar ensemble classes with weekly performances and gained valuable experience on what individual learners can do to get to that level. While I was performing as a graduate student, I always paid attention to what experience I could pass on to another student or how I could convey how much fun this is. So whether you are just wanting to learn at home for fun and enjoyment or are trying to take it to the next level of playing or performing, I can help.
METHODS USED
I am fluent in reading music and understand how to teach students how to read themselves if they have the drive. I have also found how to approach teaching on an individual learning or custom learning basis. Each student, each time, requires certain framework to get the most out of the lesson and to keep them on a path that keeps them interested, striving, and happy with their own abilities. I like to perform with students also. There must be some discipline in learning an art form or skill. So we have fun, but, we must put some work in so we can get better. My goal is to help students find their goal, start the path, and most importantly, convince them they are on the right path to the goal and the musical results are the proof. I use various method books from Hal Leonard, Julio S. Sagreras, Mel Bay, Christopher Parkening etc.
LESSON STYLE
I like to find out what the student really wants to learn. They all say they want to get better at this or that, or they are not good at this or that and would like to improve. Tell me some of your favorite music to listen to and lets try to tackle that goal or music that mirrors it closely. If its Three Days Grace, Tom Petty, Taylor Swift, Metallica, or B.B. King, lets find it and have fun. I will help address the mechanics and theory so you understand and will use those principles to tackle further music. I like to set small goals and celebrate small victories. After a while, they add up impressively.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
