I am a dedicated and methodical educator determined to help students set and achieve goals. I am currently a Masters student at Mannes School of Music, so I am very much in touch with many different aspects of teaching and learning. As a musician, I have had the opportunity to play in many different orchestras and venues across the country and I believe taking that experience helps me inspire and energize my students' love for the clarinet. I have been teaching privately for years and love getting to meet new students and their parents.
I have taught privately both at my own home studio and within community music schools for the past decade, beginning in my first year of college. I have experience with beginners (I've witnessed many very-first clarinet sounds!) as well as more advanced players. What I love most about teaching is testifying the inevitable musical and personal development that occurs when students study music privately and how much I in turn learn from them. I am highly organized and meticulous and enjoy thinking and rethinking repertoire, methods, and audition options for my students as well as teaching them how to be self-sufficient and organized. I prioritize daily practice and both mental and physical wellbeing throughout the practice of learning a musical instrument. I love meeting new students and helping them work towards their specific musical goals, whether it is to make their very first sound out of the clarinet or to prepare for collegiate music auditions!
For most students, I like to start fresh with an elementary method, usually Rubank or Langenus. I work through those two methods primarily and supplement them with etudes by Hite (Melodious and Progressive Studies) or Rose (40 Studies or 32 Etudes). I like to use Opperman's Velocity Studies and Baermann Third Division for scales/technique supplements and I also select pieces from the standard clarinet repertoire to tie everything together. Once students reach a certain level, I also like to implement the study of orchestral excerpts. At any level, I encourage students to bring repertoire they would like to work on for ensembles and auditions.
I have found that my teaching styles vary slightly for each student to help them meet their specific needs, but there are some constants that do not change for me regardless of a student's age, level, or talent. I tend to emphasize fundamentals and technique because I believe the best tool I can help my students build is musical independence. I also hold high standards for every student of mine and motivate them to practice and perform to the best of their ability, which typically results in my students' participation in auditions, recitals, and supplementary music programs. I like to take an educational approach that keeps students involved in many aspects of music (music theory, music history, pedagogy) rather than just clarinet in order to increase their overall musical competency and to spark students' interest in music as a whole. I am here wholeheartedly for my students and work with them to help them achieve whatever goals they may have and always let students know I am available to discuss music outside of lessons via email or phone. I take teaching very seriously and constantly consider and reconsider the best possible ways to serve my students.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
