Professional musician perform regularly.  Have toured in the U.S. and Asia.  Have professional composer credits for video scoring projects.  Have taught more than a generations of students.  Have performed as soloist, with chamber groups, orchestras, with jazz bands, pop bands, dance bands, active composer and music technology specialist.

Overview:
I began studying music at age 12.  I began performing music at the same time.  I studied cello, bass, and composition in Los Angeles with prominent professional teachers.  I studied music in Los Angeles and obtained my music degree at the University of Washington (music theory, history).  I am a professional working musician and teacher.  I have toured in California, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii, and South Korea. I have a chamber music ensemble that performs professional concerts and I also play professional jazz gigs.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music for at least 15 years and have had a wide range of age groups from children through adult.  Many students have stayed with me for many years.  Each student is an indivudual and I am interested in helping each student with their individual musical interests as well as giving them a good foundation in instrumental technique, music form and historical understanding. I have also taught workshops, summer music camps, at private music schools and currently teaching at the Washington Academy of Music.
METHODS USED
Each student is an individual and I teach according to the needs of the individual.  I simultaneouly teach instrumental technique, theory, history, form in a comprehensive manner that allows students to understand music at a deep level.  I do my best to first teach the joy of music which includes listening lessons, ensemble work, theory lessons, music history lessons, and recitals. I teach the fundamentals and necessary skills to prepare students for whatever level they wish to attain including for enjoyment or college music majors.
LESSON STYLE
I work with students on how to practive and engage with their instrument.  I take the student's individual needs into considerations.  I help the student to develop a music routine that will bring good results and progress.  I emphasize comprehension of musical ideas and listening.  I use all of the historical music methods and texts available for learning materials.  I have students perform as often as they can.  My students are my friends and I am always interested in their musical interests.

Wow! Carson is a master teacher and musician. Great sense of humor. Creative. Super adaptive approach to teaching an adult how to play the cello. Carson uses a structured method of teaching which I have found extremely effective. His instructions and feedback are very precise and useful. He models top level musicianship skills -- he really "gets" the inside game of music (deep listening, use of the self etc.) and incorporates different techniques underscoring the importance of these elements from the first lesson. His lessons are extremely well-prepared and touch on music history, theory, and technique. Highly recommend him.

I have enjoyed my time Carson. He is providing outstanding tools to become a better bass player. We discuss music theory, why we are doing individual exercises. We are focused on the types of music I want to learn and Carson is able to provide in-depth lessons to meet my needs and wants. I am extremely happy to have found Carson and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Carson has been a wonderful cello instructor for my daughter. He explains things well, makes each lesson enjoyable for her and cares about what and how she wants to learn. I would highly recommend him to anyone, we are so happy to have found him.
