Instruments: Saxophone Music
I start with assessing the students' capabilities, after which I begin to develop the following areas: Development of their sound; Instrument Technique; Jazz Improvisation and Jazz Language; Theory and Jazz Harmony; Study and Development of Students' Own Repertoire. Depending on the level of the students and their needs, I push certain areas more or less. The key to becoming a successful student is to practice, to develop a good technique, but also to listen to a lot of music to develop the talent for music. Read More

I've worked in many different fields around music education, enabling me to have a broad range of experiences and an ability to adapt to any situation. As a music instructor, I've taught 1-on-1 private lessons, and I've also worked at several summer camps including the Florida State University Jazz Camp, where I was the musical assistant to professor Bill Kennedy, and at Long Lake Camp For The Arts, where I served as the head of the music department. I am a passionate educator and performer from the greater Boston area. I love to see my students succeed and achieve their musical goals. My students have gone on to the college level at University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and University of New Hampshire. At the undergraduate level, I played with the UNH Wind Symphony and the UNH Symphony Orchestra for three years. I have had two full solo recitals at UNH, and I have had the opportunity to be recorded on the Wind Symphony CD: The Music of Daniel Bukvitch. Upon graduating with two degrees I moved to New York City. Read More

I never work exclusively from one book or another. Finally, I'm a strong believer in the importance of having a strong ability with and (even more importantly!) understanding of the fundamentals of the saxophone, and of music itself. This means guided practice of the basic exercises in lessons, and guided analysis/breakdown of music to see the inner patterns at work. For my students that want them, I create practice guides after each lesson (written music with exercises discussed) and send follow up emails with suggestions for things to focus on in that week's practice. I like to think that I am even-handed with my students: put in the work and show respect, and you will get the same. My teaching style is pretty heavily implied in the above sentence---when the student enters my studio, we will warm up with scales, chords, and modes. Then we will learn whatever new concept we will be learning that day, and finally end the lesson by doing the fun stuff (ie: playing actual songs). Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Saxophone Flute Clarinet Music
Teaching music has been a part of my life for ten years. I have been teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and piano to all ages in many different parst of the country including Utah, New England, New Jersey, and New York. I encourage my students to practice developing good habits but also having fun. I love all types of music and try to make what ever music/band the student is passionate about a part of the lesson, making the lesson educational and enjoyable. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet
I started teaching music in college through my babysitting network. When the mothers and fathers of the children I cared for found out that I played piano and woodwinds, many of them asked if I would also give their kids private lessons. Having a knack with kids and with music, my music teaching practice quickly blossomed in that small town. I have found that while it's important to keep kids sharp in their ability to read music on the page, it is at least as important to engage their creativity off the page. Read More
