I typically tailor my lesson plans to the needs of the student. In general, I will allocate appropriate Etudes, Scales, and Repertoire that is inline with their abilities and the standards of their particular instrument. If they are preparing for an upcoming performance or audition, that may take precedent. But I also think there is equal need for unstructured time that allows students to explore music as a creativity medium via music listening, exploratory exercises, improvisation, or even composition. I have been teaching for over 45 years, mostly in students' homes. I started in the 1970's in my NYC apartment and since moving to Westchester 30 years ago have been going to student's homes. Many of my students have been accepted to colleges as music majors or minors and my students frequently get the highest ratings in solo competitions. School band directors often recommend me as a coach for their most serious students, since school music programs usually do not have the capacity for intensive individual coaching. Read More

My teaching experience goes all the way back to my senior year of high school teaching not only my students at the Chatham school of rock but also my peers in high school as well as college. If people are more interested in an at-your-own-pace style of lessons, I love navigating the balance between pushing students to try new things and expand themselves, and solidifying the skills and interests they already have. In addition to teaching saxophone, I've been teaching both music theory (classical and jazz) and ear training (including solfege and sight singing) independent of saxophone lessons for 4 years. In my opinion, ear training is the most important skill any musician can cultivate, and I always work to integrate ear training techniques into saxophone lessons. Read More

I like to be a positive and encouraging teacher. I believer that by fostering a positive and safe environment, I can help students feel free to take chances and develop in a way that feeds into and grows their love of music. I stress fundamentals regardless of the preferred style of music that a student might be pursuing. Each student comes with different interests, learning styles, and a unique way of approaching problem solving. Read More

From adult beginners to advanced high school students, I have enjoyed helping people achieve their musical goals for the past 10 years! For younger students, audition preparation is an important part of their musical journey. I try to make this process as fun possible to make sure that they enjoy their audition experience. Read More
