As important as it is for me to help improve students technical ability and tone, I believe it is equally important for me to find ways to nurture students' creativity and passion for music. I believe it is very important for students to listen to a wide range of music, especially the type of music they are studying, in order to develop their awareness of style and nuance. I also encourage students to create their own exercises in addition to the ones I assign. Read More

I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2007, I graduated from Roosevelt University with a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance. I don't perform professionally, but I do play in a few community bands throughout the Chicagoland area. In 2004, I graduated from VanderCook College of Music with my Bachelor of Music Education degree. I taught in a few elementary schools, but I like the idea of teaching students on an individual basis. Read More

Through the Institute, I had the opportunity to teach students from the Madison WI area ranging in age from elementary through high school. I have also been a sectional instructor at the UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic for both jazz and classical saxophone sections. Read More

My methods are executed with one core value in mind: create a life long learner and lover of music. This means I establish the fundamentals of theory with beginning students and reinforce them with intermediate students. Before an instrument is played, the concepts of rhythm, note value, and scales must be approached in an engaging way. With collaboration over curriculum, I would work with the student to find his/her interests and inspiration, making the journey worthwhile and fun! Read More

I have been teaching lessons on Sax and Electronic music for over 10 years combined. I love sharing my knowledge and experiences over the years. I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing musicians in my life. I toured with a 14 piece funk band through a good portion of the '90s and I know what it takes to have a successful journey on the road. I love when the "ah ha" moment that happens when I'm teaching.
