This allows me the freedom to tailor the instruction to the specific needs of the student and successfully find what creates their individual passion. I also believe that - especially in creative mediums like music and art - every negative critique I point out needs to be accompanied by at least two positive critiques. However, I will typically move students through the method book quickly and get right into performance repertoire that is appropriate for their age and level. Technique as well as theory are equally important. It is also important to have fun while learning. I like to use the Hal Leonard lesson books combined with excersises that I have created. I can also teach songs requested by students and explain and demonstrate how theory and technique apply to the tune. For example, if a student wants to create extremely fast guitar solos, they must first learn to play a scale extremely fast.
