For brand new students, I usually like to do an assessment of where they are starting in order to recommend the best method books to use that way there is no fear of being overwhelmed in the process of developing. Fundamental techniques are also used in order to gauge what direction to go as the instruction proceeds. For non beginners, I make the adjustment according to goals and desires so that the lessons are also engaging and fun regardless of age or ability. Read More

Hello! My name is Jessica and I am a passionate and motivated music instructor that loves changing lives through music. I am a Full Sail graduate (Recording Arts & Music Business) who continued my education in child and adolescent psychology (M.S.) to allow me to fully understand my students on a developmental and cognitive level in order to ensure the highest level of success per child. I have performed in bands in my younger days and received ample superior medals but now I focus on managing our youth musically to help mold successful young adults. Read More

My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

My teaching experience started when I was in Highschool , and this has carried on throughout college and after college. I tutored my peers while still learning other instruments simultaneously. I have had the opportunity to teach at a number of elementary, middle and high schools in the atlanta and atlanta metro school districts. I have also had a number of opportunities working with adult choirs as well as community choirs and bands. Read More

There are many acceptable method books for beginning students, however, I have found that if a student gets relatively comfortable on their instrument before trying to decipher a grand staff, they seem to enjoy the learning experience more. The hardest part of teaching music, in my opinion, is the educational content that isn't in a method book. Finding someone who can play your instrument better than you can often be more inspirational than finding a new piece that is slightly out of your comfort zone or using a method book that, at the end of the day, is supposed to help a student reach the ability level of the person the student aspires to be. I have the most Experience using the following Method Books: Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, Instrumental Methods and many other methods. Initially (and throughout) I place a high value on performance fundamentals. I start with a focus on proper posture and breathing. Once this can be executed I breakdown the nomenclature of the student's instrument, how to put it together and break it down. Next the focus becomes proper grip for mallets/sticks and embouchure placement for winds. Read More

Once again, my overall goal is to develop a personal artistic voice for each student. My teaching style is flexible to style and type of music that the student wants to play, and I facilitate their growth in that specific genre of music. I also like to expose my students to types of music they would have never thought possible to play on their instruments. In culmination of all these efforts, I always try to run a recital where my students play whatever they want at the skill level they currently possess. Read More
