This allows me the freedom to tailor the instruction to the specific needs of the student and successfully find what creates their individual passion. I also believe that - especially in creative mediums like music and art - every negative critique I point out needs to be accompanied by at least two positive critiques. Technique as well as theory are equally important. It is also important to have fun while learning. I like to use the Hal Leonard lesson books combined with excersises that I have created. I can also teach songs requested by students and explain and demonstrate how theory and technique apply to the tune. Since beginning my Master's Degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, I am the TA for the Saxophone Department and I currently have 8 students (Freshman and Sophomore Undergraduates). When I have students who want to perform on stage, I challenge them to play guitar without looking at the strings so that they will focus on the audience. I am passionate about teaching, and want my students to succeed. I have been playing clarinet since I was 10 years old, and the saxophone for 40 years. I am a graduate of the Hartt School, where I majored in Jazz Studies, with saxophone performance. I have played in bands on cruise ships, performed in Latin, Rock, Jazz and RB Bands.
