I am a musician, composer, and educator seeking to share my musical knowledge with students who are eager to learn. I was born into a musical family, and was exposed to great music from an early age. I began playing the piano when I was eight, picked up the saxophone at ten, and have been playing flute and clarinet now for about six years. Following my musical education, attaining my Bachelor's of Music Performance at Ohio State University and then a Master's of Music at Western Michigan University, I worked as a musician for Royal Caribbean Cruises, performing alto saxophone, flute, and clarinet as part of the Show Band aboard the Radiance of the Seas. I believe nothing is too challenging for a student to learn at a young age. If I do not tell a student that something they are learning is difficult, they will never develop a complex that they cannot do it. Basically, I teach my students so that they can surpass where I was at their age. I enjoy preparing my students for concerts, recitals, school talent shows (and any other opportunity) by maintaining high standards, efficiently using lesson time, and combining pedagogically sound teaching with an excellent model for my students to mirror. You can learn so much about a student in a 30 minute trial lesson! If a new student is not a total beginner, I will ask them to play their favorite song (or one of their favorites if they have trouble choosing just one). After their performance, I ask them what they liked about how they played. Its important for students to always be aware of what they do well. If they arent able to see their strengths on their own then I share with them what I think their strengths are and encourage them to keep that up. Read More

My approach to teaching can be different based on the age and level of the student. In general I like to keep the pressure off my students and above all find ways to make learning fun and enjoyable. My ideal lesson is one that the student will remember, whether it's a concept we talk about or a song that we learn. I try and teach my students more than how to play notes on a page and to learn songs, but how to discover and tackle projects themselves that otherwise might seem too big a challenge. Read More

My approach to teaching is simple. I believe every student has a lens through which music feels exciting and natural. My job as a teacher is to help you discover it. For beginners, you might call this developing an interest or passion for music. Whether you're young or old, this is one of my favorite challenges as a teacher. For advanced players, it may be more about finding your voice, or dealing with issues of ego, purpose, technique, etc. Read More

For the past 5 years, I have actively taught private lessons for saxophone, flute, clarinet, and piano for students of all ages. I have found that no matter the age, experience, or instrument, that teaching music is ultimately about discovering and cultivating inspiration. I truly believe every person has something in music that they want to express, and I want to help them find and expand upon it. I think it is crucial to focus on technique and musical fundamentals. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
