My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. After those first two books I move them into the Rubank Intermediate Series of books. For saxophonist, and even some clarinetist that would like to learn some jazz I use the Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception Series. I settled on clarinet as my primary in 2004 and have picked up saxophone, flute, and guitar since then. My instruction will be tailored to each individual student's needs, interests, and desires so that they can progress on their own musical journey at their own pace. I stress development as a complete musician, and that often includes breaking away from technique to discuss other ideas like music theory, ear training, etc. Most importantly, I can explain difficult concepts in many ways. I have been proudly teaching general and instrumental music in the Cleveland Public Schools for the last twenty-three years.
