My teaching style is whatever fits best with the student. I am a high energy, silly, out of the box kind of teacher. I have no shame doing a silly dance to get my students engaged and moving! My main goal is for students to have fun and enjoy making music. My students will quickly learn to love every sound that they make because every note they produce is unique to them. Read More

I am a firm believer in showing rather than telling. I always have at least one type of saxophone with me during lessons if not more. For example, if I have a student who is taking baritone saxophone lessons, then I will have a baritone saxophone with me. My goal is not to play along with the student during these lessons; rather it is simply there if I need to demonstrate a key concept to my student. Read More

I began teaching as a teenager when I was in Ann Arbor's psychedelic rock band SPROTON LAYER. I have taught friends and family off and on for many years. During the economic crash in 2009, I took a course on Teaching to understand different age groups and varied approaches in learning. Since then, I have taught steadily and found it very rewarding. One of the hardest things to get across to the Student is that the single most important thing to do is Play. Read More

I have years of experience performing and teaching both classical and jazz styles, and try to make lessons fun for my students. Having studied some of the most renowned saxophonists in their field, including Timothy McAllister and Eugene Rousseau, I am comfortable teaching saxophonists of all levels. As a performer I have won or placed in numerous competitions through the country, performed a concerto with a professional orchestra for an audience of 3,000, and have have played hundreds of jazz gigs. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process. I enjoy employing all ways of experiencing music including playing by ear, reading sheet music, learning music theory and its practical applications, as well as playing with others and truly feeling what the music is wanting to say. I learned to read music in middle school, originally as flute player. The summer prior to my freshman year in high school I thought myself how to play the saxophone and participated in the band camp at Cass Tech High School in Detroit, Michigan. By my sophomore year, I was the section leader and by the time I graduated high school I had over 10 full scholarship offers from several universities. Read More

I have had experience teaching lessons ever since I was in college. I have developed into a highly effective teacher, motivator, and musician throughout the years and feel confident that my students will succeed when they take lessons with me. Practice has helped me to reach the level I am at, and that is one of the main things I will stress. Yes, the musical aspects of the lesson are important, and they are addressed at every lesson, but to refine and perfect those musical aspects students must practice. Read More
