It is important for me to understand what the student does not understand. The only help I may ask for is to make sure that practice does happen. I seldom ever say that practice should be timed, i.e. sit at the piano for 30 minutes no matter what. Instead, I assign a particlar song a certain number of times. Students want to learn the piano for a variety of reasons. Some arent really sure they want to learn at all, but mom wants them to give it a shot! Others just want to learn that song on the radio! All are fine reasons to learn, and each deserves a personal approach.
