I am a fast paced, energetic, positive-reinforcement kind of teacher. I like lessons to be fun and productive no matter the ability level. It is my belief that EVERYONE can sing, you just have to practice. A typical lesson involves a 10-15 minute warm-up, depending on the length of the lesson. That is followed by working on the songs that a student has prepared for the week. I've been teaching on and off for about 10 years, I enjoy helping students obtain their goals, whatever their age or skill level. I think it's important for guitarists to learn some basic music fundementals we can communicate with other improvisers outside of guitar-centric music. I am not against guitar tablature sites altogether, but I do believe that tablature can be more useful if it at least indicates the rhythms. I believe learning how to read and notate rhythms can help enrich and empower students and help them develop as performs, composers and teachers in their own right. Read More

I am a Vietnamese-American saxophonist, pianist, composer, producer, and educator from Seattle, WA. I played lead alto saxophone in the jazz band at Garfield High School under the direction of the renowned Clarence Acox, and received a soloist award as well as a saxophone section award at Essentially Ellington jazz festival at Lincoln Center in New York in 2013. In 2018, I graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music, receiving my Bachelor of Music with concentrates in Contemporary Writing Production and Film Scoring on a saxophone scholarship. I tend to emphasize piano theory and lots and LOTS of practice for my methods I link to success. Piano theory and understanding the circle of fifths and chords with their relative minors, etcetera are extremely important as building blocks to a good knowledge base, especially if you'll be composing. I find that learning how to read sheet music takes a while, but is extremely essential in order to behind fluent in practice. Read More

I believe every person learns differently and thrives off of positive reinforcement, which is why I base my curriculum solely on who I'm currently working with. Every student I work with has their own specific curriculum. Every week I'll have an assignment for the student to practice that will be expected to be completed. This will be the gauge towards their improvement. As we work week after week, I will be observing what inspires the student most and conduct assignments and based on that. Read More
