Lessons with Arias are always tailored to the individual student and that student's needs in order to facilitate maximum growth as a trumpet player and musician. Arias believes in an individualized approach, meeting the student where he/she is and moving forward through the developmental process, beginning with a strong base of fundamentals and an ever-present focus on musicality, expression, and exploration as an artist. Arias works to foster a positive learning environment where the student can learn and develop a positive self-image and confidence, while also being pushed to achieve their maximum potential as a musician and person. I have always focused on teaching each student holistically. I hope to influence students in their discovery of music through various modalities of learning, including visual, auditory, proprio-kinesthitic (movement), with a special focus on audiation. During piano and flute study, we explore the instruments as acoustical marvels and the students' interactions with them. Voice lessons always involve the whole body and mind. Listening homework is as important as practicing. I teach simple editing and technology to supplement the experience. Read More

For all beginning students who are children, but also adult beginners, I like to focus on vocal warm-ups and exercises to ensure that they develop the fundamentals of healthy singing. After getting to know the student's voice a bit, I believe that coaching solo vocal repertoire is essential to building vocal technique and confidence in performing ability for many different situations. When assigning vocal repertoire, I first like to find out what sort of music the student is interested in and also what their goals are in taking voice lessons and assign repertoire accordingly, but I also like to begin with songs from Schirmer's 24 Italian Songs and Arias book to strengthen basic breath support and a vocal line that is connected to good breath support. My students describe me as passionate, creative, interesting, and fun! After getting my bachelor's degree in music education from University of Maryland, I taught general, band, and strings in Montgomery County in Maryland. Then I taught ukulele, keyboard, drums, guitar, band, and choir in Dayton, Ohio. Now I am excited to teach lessons in Pittsburgh. While my main instrument is saxophone, where I teach all levels, I love to teach beginners on a variety of instruments, from voice and piano to keyboard and djembe! Read More

I will use whichever book students are using for their band class in addition to Rubank books. I will begin by teaching fundamentals using these books, then I continue to teach solo repertoire. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ
I listen the music which the student has been practicing. Then, I guide him/her to make corrections and enhancements. I use positive reinforcement to strengthen those parts of the performance, and suggest and demonstrate correct concepts. Then, after hearing the piece again, decide whether review the assignment or move on. Playing duets with the student is often part of the process. Doing that helps them feel the true meaning of the music; and also helps make up for a pianist's ordinarily lack of group playing because he usually practices alone. Read More
