Overview:
I have been teaching music for the last 17 years, and playing for 20+ years. Since I've started, I have been lucky enough to share the stage and become friends with some of the best musicians in Chicago. I have gained experience in a wide variety of musical settings and situations. Three of my most memorable experiences were playing at the UIC Pavilion to 10,000 people, auditioning at the Royal George Theatre, and performing Electric Guitar with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, I earned my Masters Degree in Music from the University of Toledo. The only thing I expect of my students is that they do their best, have a positive attitude, have FUN, and do the best they can.
EXPERIENCE
In my years of teaching, I find myself learning through my students as well, because I know what it's like to be in their shoes. That's what keeps me humble, and reminds me why I teach. I have been lucky to have so many great teachers, and I try to emulate their attitudes toward teaching. My teachers were always supportive and positive, and loved to have FUN. I seek to enthusiastically share my knowledge with students of all ages. Initially finding a passion for teaching as an Undergraduate, I have taken that enthusiasm to the next level, having completed a Graduate Assistantship at the University of Toledo, while teaching Undergraduate courses and earning my Master's Degree in Jazz Studies. I
METHODS USED
I seek to teach my students about music in the context of the music that they enjoy. There is no prescribed method of instruction with me. I feel this keeps the lessons FUN. I also try to bring out the creative side in all of my students. Depending on my students goals, I adjust my lessons accordingly to suit their individual needs. I want to teach them the rudiments of music in order to play the music that got them interested in wanting to take lessons in the first place. Lessons will be adjusted for each student as lessons move forward.
LESSON STYLE
My lessons are relaxed, but very informative. I want students to look forward to lessons every week, as oppose to dreading an upcoming lesson. will only be insistent upon the student practicing what I ask, and that the parents trust my judgement as teacher. I know how to assess each students ability, and how to get them to the next step in their development. Teaching is not just about learning music, it's also about developing practical skills, confidence, and to give students a healthy outlet.
