I start each student with the Frances Clark Series. This is terrific in introducing all musical components to the learner. It starts off right away using ALL the notes on the piano. Black notes are used exclusively in some repertoire. Each building block is built upon the next and it just nicely adds , in a non-threatening way to what the student has learned before. I try to set goals each lessons. I give homework. I like to see my students practice and do homework I give out. On the next lesson we will review what they practiced. The goal is to share my love of music and singing with my students so that they may go on to share that passion with others or just to love this art form as much as I do. For younger students (under eight years old) I usually use the Alfred all in one book.. for older children, I use the Bastian set of four books: piano performance, technic and theory.
