After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I like to first introduce students to basics and learn their tastes so I can modify their teaching regimen. I assign students "homework" or practice songs each week to ensure they are maintaining their routine, and if they deviate from this for some reason for more than two weeks, I immediately tune my teaching style to best motivate my students to want to practice. I aim to help students enjoy practicing, whatever level they are at. This means lessons will be tailored to each student's interest, while still following a structured progression to help them gradually advance. All students will be guided through long tones, scales, technical studies, etudes, and solo pieces. Students at higher levels may also include orchestral excerpts.
