I seldom ever say that practice should be timed, i.e. sit at the piano for 30 minutes no matter what. Instead, I assign a particlar song a certain number of times. Playing duets with student, learn very exciting extended techniques, and various repertoire are features I emphasize for students to help them enjoy and motivate to learn.
