Having fun is paramount! I have a great personality, and teach in a loosely structured environment so the student feels comfortable. No matter the age or skill level, the student will find that their enthusiasm and effort will dictate their progress. I will kindly share knowledge and help give them the tools needed to succeed. Each student is different, and has different needs, and I have always been able to instinctively give what is needed for each individual lesson. Read More

His music has been performed on stages worldwide, including Colombia, the USA, Japan, and Korea, by various clarinet quartets and wind orchestras. High-level artists have commissioned all the pieces for clarinet and clarinet ensembles, and their premieres have opened new artistic avenues for Juan. As a teacher, he has successfully mentored numerous students over the years, many of whom have gone on to complete university degrees in clarinet and composition. Read More

My philosophy for quality music education has three main parts: appreciation, practice, literacy. In no particular order... 1. The first part is exposure/appreciation of different musics, cultures and styles: The loving of music This includes: Active listening skills, genre playlists, history of solo repertoire/composers 2. The second part is the practice/performance of music, instruments, and vocally: The doing of music This includes: Physically clapping rhythms, singing, playing, performing, improvising 3. Read More

I've been teaching on and off for about 10 years, I enjoy helping students obtain their goals, whatever their age or skill level. I think it's important for guitarists to learn some basic music fundementals we can communicate with other improvisers outside of guitar-centric music. I am not against guitar tablature sites altogether, but I do believe that tablature can be more useful if it at least indicates the rhythms. I believe learning how to read and notate rhythms can help enrich and empower students and help them develop as performs, composers and teachers in their own right. Read More

I encourage students to focus on their personal expression and growth as a musician. While I select pieces for students based on their skill level and ability to take challenges effectively, students are given the freedom to browse their own musical library or lexicon to perform music they enjoy or is moving to them. Since many modern songs can be found without sheet music or proper notation for each instrument, I arrange pieces and songs for students' instruments as close to the recorded version as possible. My biggest joy is helping my students develop a passion for music and performing. Opening up the world of music to a student and seeing their progress over time is priceless. It is important that each student progress at their own pace. Setting goals for each lesson, and encouraging each student helps to fuel desire, interest and progress. By trying to find what inspires each student, I can successfully design my lesson plans to their wants, needs and personal goals. Read More

There are so many ways to approach music - via reading music, improvising, composing, playing by ear, and I make sure to include them all over the course of my lessons with students. I encourage students to bring songs that they are interested in learning, and also provide plenty of material to get them on their way to undersanding how to navigate both their instrument, and music. I usually use the Hal Leonard method for guitar students learning to read, and the Faber piano method for paino students. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
