I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2017, I graduated from Queens College with a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance(Voice). Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play at Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Festival, Museum of Chinese in America, Flushing Town Hall, Queens Library in New York, as well as touring China as several performances as the singer/band leader with Vivi H. For beginning students just starting out method books like "Hal Leonard's Essential Elements" is very popular and useful or other similar method books that public schools use. In addition to working from the popular school method books and any band music I will assign different things for my students to work on to keep our lessons fun and engaging. Each student will receive instruction from me that will inspire them to practice and want to learn more and get better. Read More

One of the biggest things I've learned from teaching students and being a student myself is that ultimately, the student's mindset and practice habits are the biggest determinant in their improvement. That is why I believe strongly in getting to know each individual student before designing a week-by-week curriculum that I feel is best for them. Books I tend to use often include the Faber "Piano Adventures" series, Hanon, and Bartok's "Mikrokosmos" (for sightreading practice). Read More

I first ask the student to play so I can hear him/her. After a student plays a short piece of music of their own choosing I can determine what the next step is. Each student has his/her own individual needs. In general though I focus on 3 key elements: 1) Sound quality 2) Technical dexterity (how the fingers deal with the twists and turns of the instrument) 3) Reading Music If a student has a specific genre of music that he/she wants to focus on then I mainly concentrate on that. For younger students, especially children, I will begin their first vocal lesson by standing next to them and showing them how to stand with correct posture. Then I will move on to breathing by having the child place their hand on their diaphragm. I will show them that it is the muscle right above their stomach. In the best way possible, I will explain to them that in order to breathe correctly, they must be able to feel their stomach move in and out instead of their chest. Read More
