I completed a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at Washburn University under the teaching of James Rivers, then completed two Master of Arts Degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary. My mother influenced my life as a musician. In 1969 she encouraged me to audition for the Newark Boys Chorus. I auditioned. I was accepted and sang in choir-school for three years, singing music from Renaissance to R&B. In 1980 I received a BM and MMT from Oberlin Conservatory. At Oberlin I met three great teachers who encouraged me to sing professionally. I pursued the career! After college I instructed outdoor and indoor drumlines for one year. I have been teaching privately full-time since 2001. At first I viewed teaching as a means to making some extra money during the months of the year when gigs were slow, but after doing it for a while I realized how much I enjoyed it, cared about it, and enjoyed seeing my students progress.
