I focus on indvidualizing the lesson to the student. Every student has different goals, dreams, and personalities. I typically use the Faber Books for piano, Hal Leonard for guitar and ukulele, and I work in sight-reading with my voice students. For beginning piano students I typically start with Faber's piano adventure series--I typically have students work through the lesson, performance, and theory books while providing them with additional repertoire on the side (pop, disney, classical pieces etc.) For voice students, I typically spend about a third of the lesson working on technique--proper breathing, posture, extending range, working on tone quality etc. Then the rest of the lesson is spent working on solo song repertoire. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper.
