As a performer, I was asked to play as principal flutist in my middle school wind band and was also admitted to Piano Major in the first two years of my Bachelor's Degree. I was one of the best pianists in my undergraduate school and switched to the composition and theory major to learn more knowledge (piano GPA was preferred to be high by most composition professors to accept this switching). Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I am a passionate and devoted teacher who believes in the power of music education, no matter the age, level, or distance! I believe in creating and giving extra time for students who are eager and ambitious learners, as I want my students to succeed as well as get as much out of their lessons as possible. I am a supportive teacher who cares about her students, and I enjoy coming up with new ideas and ways in order to get my students to improve on the material to which they are learning. Read More

The student will be expected and encouraged to take ownership of their goals, and we will work together on not only what these goals are, but how and why they can be used to communicate musically and beyond. Third, the student is invited to a relationship with the musical world around them. The one hour a week we spend working together is not bound to the limitations of that brief period of time, location of the lesson, or even any specific detail on which we might place our attention. For my string students, I typically use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements at first, and then I introduce the Suzuki Method for solo repertoire once they have progressed on their instruments. For my vocal students, I find what type of music my student is interested in, and I then recommend a voice book that we will pick repertoire from. For my piano students, I use the Piano Adventures series, which includes the fundamentals as well as solo repertoire. Read More

I talk with my students (and their parents, if applicable) about their previous musical experience and their expectations and goals in taking lessons.Everyone learns differently and at a different pace, and everyone has unique strengths. I use my students' natural strengths to help them understand the aspects of music that come less naturally to them. Lessons are balanced with technical exercises (scales and arpeggios), music theory (reading music, chord types and progressions,) and learning and performing pieces of music. Read More

I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. Teaching students has been a rewarding experience for me, and I believe that I can make a difference in their lives.< When students are practicing, I want them to practice scales for instruments, and vocal warmups for voice before starting on the assigned work for the next lesson.
