I always figure out where a student is at, and prefer to grow off the student's strengths as opposed to harping on their weaknesses. I have been in lessons before where teachers couldn't get past the smallest details, and these ruined the experience for me, as well as greatly affected what I was able to accomplish in my lessons. My professional experience includes assisting piano professors to teach undergraduate students of different abilities, teaching skills that range from basic scales to classical overtures to modern jazz. I also teach beginners how to read sheet music, and communicate with younger students’ parents to make sure they know how the students are progressing. I do insist that each student practice one to two hours a day based on what they are taught. This includes, but is not limited to finger exercises, drills, posture and any thing that will make playing better for them.
