Practice is important, but smart practice is essential. I help the student to practice efficiently without wasting time or energy. Smart practice also means to get results and achieve goals quickly. Technique is tremendously important in order to execute the music. Classical music is the fundamental and first step a student needs to take in order to learn and perform music properly. If his/her interest is popular music or jazz, I aim to give the student a classical assignment as well as an assignment in these genres. Read More

Its gives me great joy to see my students practicing asking questions and progressing as well. If a student is not progressing i would give him great advice and praise to get him motivated to practice and watch him improve as well. I think my approach to teaching piano is highly individualized. What motivates one student will not necessarily motivate another. Brief example: I currently have a student who likes to give me really "hard" high-fives after he has accomplished something. While he is adorable and he will work really hard to give me that high-five; this wouldn't work on many other students. Whatever will inspire my student to practice is what I will provide whether that is praise or stickers. Read More

For me, it is easier for me to hear a rhythm or melody while looking at it. It is easier for me to grasp and understand the rhythm and melody in terms of the context of the piece. Same with my teaching. I will always demonstrate a scale or rhythm or chord for a student before having the student attempt it by themselves. After we work through the example together, I will have them try playing it alone and if a particular area needs to be fixed I will address it, make sure the student understands, and move on from there. I have been teaching piano on and off since 1982. I worked with children between the age 6 and 18 years but enjoy teaching students of all ages. My students are also encouraged to have recitals twice a year. I organize activities such as concert, performance, and exams.
