I began teaching piano when I was in eighth grade, teaching beginners. During my undergraduate years, I maintained a full private studio of beginning to intermediate students, and while living in Germany, I taught piano and voice at a private German music studio and in my home. The age range of my students has spanned from five to 70, and I enjoy teaching all levels of students. I have taught piano, voice, and composition to college level music majors. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I'm currently an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and I'm still playing piano in school and teaching piano part-time. I'll be teaching both online and at my home studio in Kirkland. I've performed in several recitals when I was living in the Bay Area. I recently moved from the Bay Area to Kirkland. Read More

For young learners, I teach using Nancy and Randal Faber's Piano Adventures. For adults, I use the all-in-one Faber adult book. However, as early as possible, I like to get outside of the book and get a student learning a song they love. When it comes to learning piano (especially in the beginning), fun is a critical ingredient for success. In my lessons, I work with students through a lesson book, on repertoire they are interested outside the lesson book, on technique, music theory, and anything a student is interested in or curious about. I am primarily a percussionist, with over 10 years of expierience playing and performing in jazz bands, marching bands, musical theatre, small ensembles, wind ensembles, and symphonies, and I was the principle percussionist for 2 years while I was in college. I also have 5 years of expierience on the trumpet, 15 years of guitar, as well as expierience with many other instruments. I love to perform as well as teach, and I believe that classical and contemporary do not have to be at odds, and I work hard to incorporate both into my own performances as well as when I teach. My methods are not unusual, although I am a bit. Based on the the students experience and ability, or lack thereof, I'll make suggestions about what music to get. Often they already have music that will work, to which I will add developemental studies of various sorts. For example, I like Bartok's Mikrocosmos which he wrote to teach is nine year old son to play piano. Many things can be learned with no book at all, but reading music is also important. Read More

I have taught in the classroom, small group settings as well as one on one in both piano and drumset. My favorite thing about music instruction is connecting with the students on a musical and personal level. I started studying piano at the age of 5, making it my career as a teacher after college and into adult life. Choosing to focus more on drumset and percussion studies at the age of 11, I then studied Percussion Studies in College, playing in many bands and in multiple styles. Read More
