Music is my life, and I love to share my passion with others! I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1997, majoring in Music Production and Engineering and Voice. I have been producing music, and I have been teaching voice and piano off and on for 25 years. I am a singer songwriter, and I play with my band "Dream Jeannie". I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. I am interested in the individual growth of my students. I encourage exploration and learning through experiences, and if my students leave my classes with a little more knowledge and a great deal more wonder, I consider it a success. I like to follow my students down the tracks they are interested in and then choose to broaden the path once we are there. From this place I have written a 12 page chart featuring a Justin Bieber tune, written a Britney Spears song into Swing, put a Miranda Lambert song in five, and arranged an original by The Script in a Latin feel. The dedication it takes to learn an instrument can help develop skills values that will benefit the student throughout life, regardless of profession. Therefore, I believe that the process of learning music is more important than any particular performance that we work toward, so I take a pragmatic approach to instruction. Of course, we look forward to recitals and concerts, because they give our rehearsals direction, but it should also be emphasized that our most rewarding musical experiences may happen in lessons or private practice. My goal is to help my students not only become fluent in the language of music so that they can pursue music as an activity throughout their lives, whether as professionals or amateurs, but also to develop physically and mentally healthy, positive approaches to their practicing and performing.
