Overview:
Music is my life, and I love to share my passion with others! I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1997, majoring in Music Production and Engineering and Voice. I have been producing music, and I have been teaching voice and piano off and on for 25 years. I am a singer songwriter, and I play with my band "Dream Jeannie". Some of my other paid jobs include producing cultural music, singing back-up vocals for a local artist, and teaching for Tacoma Public Schools, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, The City of University Place, and Taylor Robinson Music.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching piano and voice lessons in 1996 when I was a college student. I was trained to teach by the director of Studio 90 Music School in Massachusetts. I then went on to acquire my own students, and travelled around the greater Boston area teaching children and adults in their homes. I have also taught out of many local music stores. In 2009 I went back to school for Early Care and Education, which has greatly enhanced my skills and passion for teaching younger children. My goal for each student is to spark their passion for music, playing and singing songs and styles that they enjoy.
METHODS USED
When I teach teenagers or adults I usually start with Alred’s Basic Adult Piano Course Book, as well as a music theory book that is suited to the student. I like Alfred’s series for the young beginner as well, but have also used the Bastien series. For voice students I use a warm up book and a sight singing book. My students keep a music notebook of the week’s assignments in which I also make music theory notes and explanations. In addition to the instruction books, I find out particular songs that the student would like to learn and include them in the lesson. If the student wants to compose music, I also teach songwriting skills, and playing by ear.
LESSON STYLE
I have a friendly and laid back teaching style, maintaining student/teacher professionalism. How much or how fast the student learns depends a lot on how much they practice. For younger students I use stickers as rewards to help motivate them. I adapt to the student when it comes to the style of music we play or sing. Occasionally we may play or sing duets. I let voice students choose which songs they want to sing. Piano students can choose songs as well, but we mostly play from the instruction books. There is also a Theory book for piano students. I know the student will continue to want to learn if they have fun during the lesson, so that is what I strive for!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
