For beginning students I typically start with sound development and articulation for the brass instruments starting with armband studies and schlosburg studies. For the intermediate students I work on Clark studies and intersperse getchel etudes for artistic development. Advanced students work on major recital works for brass that help their development for performance. I am a clarinetist, student, and educator excited about sharing my knowledge of music and the clarinet with students. I completed my MM degree in the Spring of 2023 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, College of Visual and Performing Arts, studying clarinet performance with Dr. Andy Hudson and Dr. Anthony Taylor. For beginning drum students, I typically like to start with the Percussive Arts Society sheet of rudiments to ensure a solid technical background as the student progresses. After that, we move on to simple reading and other drumming fundamental concepts including limb coordination, fills, phrasing and articulation, etc. With older students, I find it helpful to try and begin with what they are interested and comfortable in playing. I graduated from Guilford College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance and Education Studies this year 2022.
