For piano students just starting out, I like Alfred’s basic piano library, and the Bastien piano basics. There are several other piano courses I’m excited to try as well. For both piano and voice students, I like to include a book of tunes with which the student is familiar: movie tunes, Disney songs, etc. For older students, I will focus a little more on the different time periods of music and help them to gain an appreciation for each. I've been singing and banging and strumming on things since I was 3 years old. I have played and sung all over the world and the U.S., in Cathedrals, Symphony Halls, arenas, ampitheatres, bars, and back lawns, and studios, making just about every type of music I can think of. I've worked with Grammy winner Seal, I've played for Pres.Clinton, and the president of Angola. I got to perform on Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, and others. Read More

Hello! I am a highly motivated private instructor that loves to share my passion of music to all. I graduated from Emporia State University in May 2023 with my Master of Music degree in Flute Performance. During my time at ESU I was in the marching band (piccolo/trumpet), Hornet Revue (piccolo), Jazz Ensemble (piano), Wind Ensemble (principal flute/piccolo), symphony orchestra (principal flute), fall musicals, and flute choir. Being in these different ensembles, I was able to learn a wide variety of musical genres, from blues to pop to classical and all in between. Read More

I have studied many teaching methods, including Orff, Suzuki, the Russian music school. Essential to the Russian music school of piano method are touch, tone and expressiveness. When playing piano, posture, hand position and other fundamentals are very important. I use elements of all of these methods, tailored to the needs and abilities of my individual students. In vocal lessons, my method is based on breath control and learning to sing a musical piece the way the composer intended, emotionally and expressively. Read More

My goal for each of my students is that they are truly learning things that make them want to play, pieces and techniques that make them want to learn more and ask questions for themselves. I am not here to tell a student what they can and cannot do in music (though of course I am in technical ways) - I am here to enable students to make the music they want to make, to perform the sounds they hear in their head. I believe each student has unique gifts. I love watching my students thrive by encouraging self-exploration as we learn about music. If a student loves playing by ear, we seek knowledge of composition more, if they are inspired to play Star Wars, we add that to the repertoire. If a good solid foundation is built through the sequential lesson books along with motivating material, retention is higher. Encouragement of progression at his or her own pace by understanding each students gifts, along with realistic goals and practice, aids in well rounded musicians. Read More

In my studio, the most important thing when structuring lessons is to make them individualized. No two lessons look the same in my studio. If a student wants to work on composing, that will be the focus. If the student wants to work on sight-reading, we'll focus on that. Of course, it's important to be a well-rounded musician, but these lessons are for the students' benefit, not mine, so I'll make sure they leave their lessons with what they want to gain. Read More
