At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I however will now focus on solely fundamentals and will try to include in songs that the student would like to learn as long as it is in the bounds of reality, the lessons I provide are only part of the equation and the real work is what is put in after the lesson. I like to select a basic book on fundamentals supplemented with blues, popular, or jazz or seasonal music to Motivate the student. There will be some attention to scales and how chords are built along with other theory as it applies to the pieces they are studying. Some attention is required due to the cycle of fifths and why some keys are selected more than others. I expect the student to review our lesson no less that 4 times a week and not all at once just before the next lesson. Read More

Voice: First 40-60% of each lesson: Voice Building and Technique (Working on the student's range, placement, support, alignment, and vowel clarity). Theory and sightreading is introduced on day-one, and emphasized in every lesson going forward. Last 40% of each lesson: Repertoire (With every student, I ask that YOU pick one song that you want to sing, in any genre of your choice, and I will in turn supply you with a piece that both suits you, but will challenge you as well. With students learning or continuing education on the piano, like to start with the basics. Once the student begins to have a grasp for that i begin to introduce reading music and theory. I also like to prepare the student to play any genre of music by sheet music or by ear as well. As far drums i also start with the basics, once the learn and grasp that we continue by learning different techniques of playing as well as teaching basic rudiments and how to read music and play drums by ear. I've had quite extensive experiences in teaching. Teaching and tutoring began during my high school days. I would help out after classes or teach piano on the side. Coming up will be my 6th year in teaching piano. I've also tutored my peers all throughout college in music theory, musicianship, and ear/aural training. I've interned at an elementary school for a semester teaching general music. I was even able to get the opportunity to go to Japan for three months and teach English and translate for the United States Navy. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with Faber and Faber book sets. I then use the books to help guide the students as they grow their abilities and levels. For adults, I would also use Faber and Faber adult beginner books. As well as other adult beginner books based on the music genre preference of the adult.
