This summer I was the music director and vocal coach for The Little Mermaid. My students are encouaraged to push outside their boundaries and discover new techniques and styles that they never thought they could accomplish. I use positive reinforcement, character work, and classical rooted techniques to develop a healthy singing technique that will keep the voice strong and growing. For children, I do not use books or complicate bibliography to teach. I encourage children to discover music through their own curiosity. Using historical imagery and references of the natural world that surrounds us, is very effective way to help children understand music. Art contains emotion and intellect, so, my intention is that the kids explore that knowledge in a fun and joyful way. For adults, the teaching process is more focus to expand their abilities. For beginning students, I start with the traditional Mel Bay (or comparable) beginner books that focus on the fundamentals while building strength and coordination and just build from there.  For students with a little more experience, I like to focus on more challenging exercises and concepts while nurturing their knowledge of music theory and performance.  Each student is different and knowing what motivates them motivates me.  My goal is to have them want to pick up their instrument and play. I use the Faber method for my beginner students. Sometimes with students who are 4 or 5 years I use the pre-beginners books from Alfred. Other times I use the Suzuki method, depending on the level of understanding. Alongside those books, I use technique books to build good, strong hand especially for young kids. As we move along I start giving solo repertoire from different eras of music to introduce the student to different kinds of music from different composers. Read More

I have been teaching in the States for about 9 years. It is a pleasure for me to hear my students progress from their first steps as timid, first-time players to confident and more musically mature young musicians. My students participate in a monthly MDML recital and an annual music test organized by the MMTA. I believe performing for others is a good way for students to grow into their roles as musicians and to acquire a sense of accomplishment. Read More
