Instruments: Piano Voice
I love to see my students enjoy learning music and gain confidence as they realize their musical potential. This can only be accomplished in a safe and healthy environment where my students are able to express themselves without fear of rejection or judgement. At the first voice lesson, I have my students list their musical goals and what they hope to achieve. Through positive affirmation, I am able to help them reach their goals and develop a passion for music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Oboe Bassoon
I come from a family of teachers, and I started sharing my love of music with family and friends at a very early age. I was section leader in high school and assistant concert master at a local church orchestra. During and after college, I worked with a company that provided group piano lessons at Detroit Public Schools. A nearby high school band recruited me to tutor their double reeds section. Read More

I let the student decide what the lesson is to be like. There are a lot of things to cover, but I will adapt what I think is the best teaching style for the student based on things like what he or she wants to learn. If you are interested in electronic music production, I can even teach lessons in Ableton Live. I am very well versed in all aspects of pro audio and would love to share and teach my knowledge. For very young beginning students, I typically start with Faber Piano Adventures, and for older beginners, the Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures or Hal Leonard Adult Learner Series. Once the student has shown an understanding of basic theory and technique, classical repertoire will be introduced, along with level appropriate arrangements of the student's choice music. It's important that the student is taught how to practice a piece effectively to continue growing musically in between lessons, so that lessons can be used to find areas for improvement, and to learn new concepts and material. I focus on technique, musicality and music rudiments--rhythm, harmony, vocabulary. I have been teaching privately for over 4 decades. I have worked with youth bands and orchestras and directed musical theatre and opera. I can work with beginners and students at all levels. Read More

I take the great things about the Suzuki Method and use them (fun, creativity, by-ear learning, group jams). Then I take the things I don't like about the method and disregard them (pre-established repetoire, no composition or improv). I teach kids how to concentrate, how to teach themselves, how to ignore distractions, and the philosophy for joyful performance without nervousness. The result has been that I have trained hundreds of children to have fun playing music well, plus four of my child students have become national acts. Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Music
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
