I am certified through the UK schools - the Trinity college of music, and the Royal schools of music, London, in classical piano. I trained at St Annes high school and the Calcutta school of music, India, where I studied under the then principal Fauzia Marikar. That enabled me to develop a methodology that is structured, standardized and rigorous. I've taught piano for almost 5 years. I was an instructor at music and arts as well as other local music schools. Read More

For young beginners, I generally will start with a beginning method book (such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements) but the book will depend on the instrument as well. For older students, I want to know what kind of music they enjoy playing or listen to, and guide them along to reach their goals--whether that be to play in a band, write and record an album, or just become a better player! Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for their instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn as well as sing . Read More

My teaching methods vary depending on the student's needs and musical knowledge. Normally starting with general repertoire before expanding into different genres in order to obtain a feel for each person's skill or level of understanding. If they are younger, I tend to lean towards the more conventional approach with the Bastien Piano Basics or Piano Adventures for them to grow in the fundamentals. I have found that the more interest they display for piano, the more excited they become about exploring different styles of music. Read More

Premieres of my works have also been made by the locally-based Balance Campaign and Strata Trio. I believe the role of an artist goes hand-in-hand with the role of an educator: both have a strong sense of moral responsibility. When at our best we foster alternative ways of thinking, problem solving, and communicating with others. I believe that art and education are never a matter of excess. The ability to imagine and create is nothing less than paramount in giving future generations ways to cope, communicate, and address this worlds age-old problems. Read More
