I began teaching in my undergrad to help pay living expenses and have been teaching ever since in private studio, public schools, and private music schools. In total I have taught for eight years and change. I strongly encourage my students to perform in public and play music with others as much as possible. To help facilitate this I organize two recitals per year where students have the opportunity to showcase their abilities for family and friends and gain valuable performance experience along the way. General Method In General, I believe the three foundations of a student's success are 1. Proper Technique (scales, rudiments, etc) 2. Repertoire (memorized pieces) 3. Creativity (improvising, learning by ear) Parents: You MUST encouraging you child to practice or "play". When they practice, be there, let them know you love hearing them play. I can not stress enough how crucial parent participation is. The student needs to practice at least 20 minutes a day up to several hours depending on the age and goal of the student. Read More

Nothing kills enthusiasm in the long run like rote teaching. With a complete beginner, especially a young child, an abstraction like music can be overwhelming if not presented in a structured manner. For that reason, I generally speak at length with the parents and explain that the preparation work takes several lessons. I begin by introducing young students to the keyboard and familiarize them with both black and white keys quickly. Read More

What I love about teaching is that each student is unique and has different types of abilities and motivations to study music. Music is a joy, but in order to get the most out of the experience of playing an instrument, there is some work involved. My style is to work on manageable goals that build a strong musical foundation, while maintaining focus on the joy that inspired the student to study in the first place. Read More

Lessons are positive and laid back.  An atmosphere is created to be able to ask any question. Lessons are comprehensive, meaning that they both play to the student's strengths while addressing any weaknesses or information that is typically skipped over in public school simply due to lack of time and having the students on an individual basis.  Lessons are not just theory oriented, but more performing oriented.  There is always a solo to play or duet to sight read. My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate experience, where I vocal and music directed 6 student theater productions. This includes providing one-on-one vocal instruction for leads and ensemble members and teaching full vocal scores to ensembles of over 20. I was also the music director of my A Cappella group, so I have experience auditioning, training, and rehearsing a cappella singers. I am also a trained pianist and accompanist, so I provide tracks for students virtually and live accompaniment for in-person lessons and use these skills to provide piano lessons. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
