I began teaching in early college, tutoring a little in computer science and a little in music theory - until the main music theory tutor graduated. I took over his position and have had a blast since. The main goal of any lessons is the inspire the student to fall in love with whatever the subject matter, and luckily - music is easy to fall in love with! After college i completed a CELTA course from Cambridge, which is a certificate in teaching english to speakers of other languages. Read More

I've been teaching private lessons for over 12 years. I teach all ages, but my focus is elementary-aged kids. I think that, while proper technique and repertoire are important, it is essential that young beginners enjoy playing the piano. My job is to show my students that making music is fun! And this is my goal with my album for kids, everything in that was thought to go through the mostly important techniques but always having fun and making music. Read More

I have been drumming and performing music for nearly 30 years. I started out playing by ear at 5 years of age and shortly after received professional lessons. I became interested in a diverse variety of musical genres that grew as I did. I was very lucky to have two supportive parents, Bryan and Deborah who noticed my talents and nurtured them at a very young, impressionable age, introducing me to different instruments and live music. Music lessons should be fun - I have practical tips for practicing but the student's desire to learn will be the drive. The most important thing is to keep picking up that instrument - even if its for 5-10 minutes a day. By modeling that all teachers are still students, I create a safe and supportive environment. I like to hear what kind of music my students are listening to and incorporate that in the process, as it excites and motivates students to play the music that they love to listen to. Read More

I am a strong advocate in fusing together practice and performance. I personally have had teachers that focused too much on technical studies and theory, and not enough time on incorporating those skills into performance; which is the main reason why many people have a desire to learn a musical instrument. In my lessons, I focus on developing skills that are essential to my student's overall musical development. These skills include music theory, ear training, rhythmic analysis, technique, and finally, applying all those skills into a performing setting. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with the method book that the child is given by the school Music teacher, making certain that they are at least adequately prepared to play their assigned studies (or pages) for their school Music lesson. I also incorporate playing the Duets provided in that volume, along with the students. I then suggest that they purchase other necessary methods, duets and solos at their local Music Store(s), as they progress, and they will therefore require more advanced Musical materials than that used at their school. I have been teaching for over 40 years. In my studio, my focus is on repertoire, however I also cover ear training, theory and composition. I teach all styles of music with a focus on the classical repertoire. The theory, composition and ear training will often coincide with the style of music being studied. I provide 2 or 3 recitals every year where students have a chance to listen to others perform and find new music they have possibly not heard and would enjoy to learn. Read More
